Hemodynamics
Systemic Vascular Resistance (SVR) Calculator
Afterload of the left ventricle from MAP, CVP and cardiac output; low in vasodilatory shock, high in cardiogenic and hypovolemic shock.
Formula
SVR = (MAP - CVP) / CO × 80
Reference: Normal 800–1200
How it is used
- Normal SVR is 800–1200 dyn·s/cm⁵.
- Low SVR: vasodilatory (distributive) shock, such as sepsis, anaphylaxis or neurogenic shock.
- High SVR: compensatory vasoconstriction in cardiogenic or hypovolemic shock; check the filling pressures to tell them apart.
